40 Million Barrels Of Crude Held Offshore By End Of October

LONDON -(Dow Jones)- A total of 21 vessels storing around 40 million barrels of crude oil were anchored offshore worldwide by the end of October, according to data compiled by shipbroker Simpson Spence & Young Ltd., or SSY, Thursday.

The total consists of 19 Very Large Crude Carriers and two Suezmax tankers, which are by and large held off the coasts of the U.S., U.K. and West Africa, analysts at the largest independent shipbroking group in the world said.

VLCCs are capable of holding around two million barrels of crude and oil products onboard.

The shipbroker also said that 112 tankers carrying roughly 72 million barrels of clean oil products were offshore worldwide by the end of last month, consisting of seven VLCCs anchored of the coasts of Singapore, West Africa and Malta. The rest of the fleet includes smaller vessels consisting of 62 LR 2 Vessels, 25 LR 1 vessels, 14 Suezmax tankers and four medium-range ships, SSY said.
